DoorDash has received just “several hundred” orders from outside AI agents such as Muse, Instinct, and Fo, the company told analysts on its third-quarter earnings call, TechCrunch reported. Compare that with the 3 million deliveries a day it averaged, according to its 2025 report.

CEO Tony Xu was asked about agents directly. “You never want to fight gravity,” he said, but “you don’t want to be delusional” either. Customers still order mostly through DoorDash’s own app.

The company is not sitting out the trend. It runs its own agents, including Ask DoorDash, a chatbot launched in June that takes orders from prompts and photos, and a text-to-order agent from September. Xu said DoorDash wants to learn how agents are used and could one day sell advertising inside them.

Retailers are split on letting agents in. Amazon has been blocking personal shopping agents, while Walmart has welcomed them to win customers from rivals.

A company completing millions of deliveries daily sees agent demand in the hundreds. Outside agents are not yet a channel worth building a delivery strategy around.
