OpenRouter is cutting prices on OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol by half, the routing platform said in a post on X. The discount spans the batch API, the flex tier, and the priority (fast) tier, and it kicks in automatically for any call to the openai/gpt-5.6-sol slug. No configuration change is needed.

On the flex tier, pricing now bottoms out at $1.25 for input tokens and $7.50 for output tokens. OpenRouter clarified in a follow-up post that the cut applies solely to requests routed through the OpenAI provider, and only non-BYOK traffic qualifies: developers using their own OpenAI API key are excluded. The promotion runs through September 18.

The timing adds context. Stripe has agreed to acquire OpenRouter for more than $7 billion, so a discount run jointly with OpenAI reads less like routine pricing and more like positioning ahead of new ownership. Teams with heavy batch or flex usage on Sol should lock in volume before the mid-September cutoff.
