Google is trialing an expanded Gemini desktop app that adds separate navigation tabs for generating images and video, according to TestingCatalog. The changes appear only in trusted-tester builds, and the outlet found no public release date attached to them.
A second addition puts a camera icon inside the attachment menu. Tapping it opens a photo-capture view, snaps a still shot, and drops it right into the chat prompt, closer to how the mobile app already works than to Gemini Live’s continuous video sharing.
TestingCatalog also spotted a change inside Spark, Google’s background AI agent: its desktop connectors panel now lets users register custom MCP servers, a setting the web app already exposed. The addition mainly helps people running Spark from the Mac client.
None of this is confirmed or scheduled by Google. The pattern matters because the desktop Gemini app has lagged the browser version on generation tools and attachments, and these tests suggest Google wants fewer reasons for desktop users to switch to a tab.
