A homeowner with a leaking pipe can now get it fixed for nothing, as long as the person doing the fixing is wearing a recording device. HUMXN, an AI lab focused on collecting data from the physical world, is offering that trade, Tom’s Hardware reported on 17 October 2026.
The lab says it will subsidize plumbing, HVAC work, electrical work, and the cleaning of air ducts and carpets. In return, a worker with “wearable capture technology” does the job inside the home. The headline says the sensors record video, and the aim is to teach AI robots how skilled tradespeople work.
The offer spans three cities. The article does not say how many homes HUMXN wants, how long the offer runs, or what becomes of the footage afterward. Those terms decide what a free repair really costs.
Tom’s Hardware’s own standfirst wonders whether blue-collar work is next in line for AI. Anyone tempted by the deal should get the answers in writing before the camera comes through the door.
