Wix AI Review: What Replaced Wix ADI, and Whether It’s Worth Paying For

Wix AI is worth it if you want a hosted, sellable business site (domain, checkout, bookings, SEO) generated from one sentence and then fixed by hand, starting at $0, or $17/month for a custom domain. Skip it if you want design control, portable code, or a stable price: Wix killed ADI on November 10, 2024, funnelled everyone into an AI-first editor called Harmony, and the complaint that keeps recurring on r/WIX through 2026 is that reaching the old blank canvas now takes a scavenger hunt.

Our verdict: 6.5 / 10. Updated July 2026.

Method, stated plainly: this Wix AI review is consensus-scored, not a first-hand build. We read Wix’s ADI shutdown notice and its Harmony pricing guide, checked the plan feature grid live on wix.com/plans, pulled the Trustpilot profile, and worked through two Reddit threads comment by comment, all on July 29, 2026. One disclosure that matters: Wix’s plans page would not render US dollars from our exit node, so the prices below are Wix’s own published US figures, not numbers we watched load at a US checkout. And we have not built a site in Harmony. The screenshots and the build test are queued as artifacts.

The verdict box

First: what every other Wix ADI review gets wrong

Wix ADI does not exist.

Wix’s own help centre is blunt: “As of November 10th 2024, Wix no longer supports sites created using the ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence) builder. The ADI builder is no longer supported and cannot be accessed to create websites.” The same page says ADI “has been replaced by the Wix AI Website Builder.” (Wix Help Center, read Jul 29, 2026) Published ADI sites were moved into the Wix Editor. Sites left unpublished and inactive for six months during the transition were deleted outright.

That matters because “wix adi” still pulls about 1,600 US searches a month (Ubersuggest, Jul 29, 2026), and most pages ranking for it were written while the product was alive. Wix’s own history of the line runs ADI (2016) → the Wix AI Website Builder → Wix Harmony, the current hybrid editor with an AI agent called Aria. Wix calls the last jump an architectural rewrite rather than a coat of paint. CEO Avishai Abrahami: Harmony “is not ‘AI sprinkled on top’ of the old Wix editor. We completely changed the architecture so that vibe coding and visual editing work harmoniously together on the same project.” (Wix Blog, published Jan 23, updated May 4, read Jul 29, 2026) That’s the vendor describing its own product, and we’re labelling it as such.

What Wix AI actually costs (read July 29, 2026)

There is no separate charge for the AI. Wix’s pricing guide says it plainly: the Harmony editor “doesn’t have its own separate price tag because it’s included in every Wix plan, including the free forever plan.” (Wix Blog, read Jul 29, 2026) You pay for the site, not the robot.

Read that price column with the caveat we put at the top: the feature grid is what we watched load on wix.com/plans, but the dollar figures are Wix’s own, from its Harmony pricing guide, which stamps them “accurate as of January 21, 2026, for US pricing.” Anyone can re-check them at checkout in about ninety seconds, and you should.

Two things the plans page won’t tell you in a headline. The advertised prices are annual, paid in full at purchase, so a “$17/month” Light plan is $204 handed over on day one and monthly billing costs more. And the 14-day money-back guarantee applies, in Wix’s own words, only “to the initial upgrade to a Premium plan.” Not to the renewal that actually stings.

Renewals are where the friction lives. One r/WIX commenter reported a 40% jump in their yearly cost and said Wix’s counter-offer was to move them to monthly billing to soften it (r/WIX). A separate thread posted two days before we pulled this page is titled simply “Price going up again by 1/3”. Individual accounts, not company policy. Consistent enough that you should price the second year, not the first.

What Wix AI does well

One caveat before the praise. The warmest user reports we could source sit in an r/PromptDesign thread opened in April 2024, and the comments we quote from it were posted through 2025, which means they describe the AI website builder that preceded Harmony. Read them as evidence about the approach, not about this month’s editor.

It ships a business, not a webpage. ✔️ The honest reason Wix keeps beating slicker AI builders. One prompt gets you a site; the same subscription gets you managed hosting, a registered domain, SSL, a checkout, an appointment calendar, email campaigns and analytics. Nothing to wire together, one invoice.

The generated first draft is a starting point, not a demo. ✔️ The most useful description we found came from a user recommending it for a first personal site: the AI builder is “effectively just a custom made pre-set for your idea, for you to then build upon.” A second commenter in the same thread, an agency owner who says they ship around ten Wix sites a month for smaller clients, reports that 95% of those clients are happy with the first generated version. (r/PromptDesign, comments from 2025, read Jul 29, 2026) It gets you past the blank page and the stock-photo hunt, and writes serviceable first-draft copy.

Harmony also didn’t take the manual tools away, whatever the angriest threads imply. ✔️ A defender in the March 2026 r/WIX thread: “The drag and drop functionality still fully exists, even in Harmony… You can still do everything manually if you want to.” (r/WIX) Both things are true at once. The manual tools survived. The default path to them didn’t.

It’s the right tool for a beginner who will never learn a second one. ✔️ A coffee-shop owner in Delhi, posting in that r/PromptDesign thread, had zero site-building knowledge, answered a few questions, customised a little, and got a site she was happy with. For that reader, everything below matters less than it looks.

Where Wix AI falls short

The AI is not optional enough. ❌ This is the specific, repeatable criticism, and the one we deduct hardest for. A March 2026 r/WIX thread, 75 comments deep, opens with a former enthusiast who ran a portfolio site on Wix from 2018 to 2022: “It’s impossible to actually find the classic editor and use a blank canvas without having prompts and AI crap shoved down my throat.” A commenter three weeks ago was blunter: “Harmony does everything except let you design your site.” Another user posted the workaround, and it’s the tell. Create a new site, skip AI setup, then pick a template that doesn’t carry the neon-green Harmony tag. Useful instruction. Damning one. A default shouldn’t need a folk remedy. Three editors, and nobody will tell you which one you’re in. ❌ Wix Editor, Wix Studio and Wix Harmony coexist. One commenter in that thread says the classic Editor “is in end of life status”; another says “the classic editor is going nowhere.” Wix has published neither. Studio is the professional tier and prices differently. New users pick the wrong one and find out three hours in.

There’s no exit. ❌ No export, no portable code, no migration path. Rebuilding from scratch is the only way off Wix, a point users in that thread make in harsher words than we would (“vendor lock, no site portability”). True of Squarespace too, and the biggest structural gap between Wix and the WordPress/Framer/vibe-coding side of this category.

Public sentiment is middling, and polarised. ❌ Wix.com holds a TrustScore of 3.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot across 28,616 reviews, 3,686 of them in the last 12 months (Trustpilot, read Jul 29, 2026). The distribution is the interesting part: 72% five-star against 22% one-star, and almost nothing in between. That isn’t a lukewarm product. That’s one that works completely or fails you badly, with billing and refunds the theme running through the bad half.

Who should skip Wix AI

Designers and agencies who bill for craft. Harmony optimises for speed to first draft. If your value is pixel control, you’ll spend the day fighting the generator. Look at Framer or Wix’s own Studio tier, and price Studio before you assume it’s included, because it isn’t.

Anyone who needs to own the output. Developers, technical founders, and anyone whose site may need to move to a real host later. Vibe-coding builders produce a repository; Wix produces a Wix site.

Long-time Wix Editor loyalists on a deadline. If your muscle memory is the old blank canvas, the 2026 flow costs you an hour of hunting before you build anything.

Budget-first buyers. The entry number is fine. The renewal number is what shows up in the complaint threads.

Wix AI alternatives, by the job you’re doing

The honest one-liners:

• Choose Wix if the website is one job on a long list and it also needs to take bookings and payments without a second subscription.
• Choose Hostinger if price decides it, but budget the renewal rather than the promo. That $2.99 becomes $10.99 (verified Jul 29, 2026), and the promo only exists on a four-year prepayment.
• Choose Framer if you’d rather have a design tool that added AI than an AI that added design tools.

No. Wix stopped supporting ADI on November 10, 2024, and the builder can no longer be used to create sites. Published ADI sites were migrated into the Wix Editor; unpublished sites inactive for six months were deleted. Wix’s current AI builder is Harmony, with an AI agent called Aria.

Does Wix AI cost extra?

Bottom line

Wix AI is the safest AI website builder to hand a non-technical business owner, and the most frustrating one to hand a designer. It builds a real, hosted, sellable site from a sentence. It also decides how you work, and it is very hard to leave.

So: start on the free plan, upgrade only when a custom domain is actually earning money, and before you hand over the $204 for year one, go and read what year two cost the people already paying. That is the number this review would change your mind about.
