Instinct, a personal AI assistant, can now be added to group chats, Noah Shinn said in an X post on 5 October 2026. Access is limited to early access users. The post says a wider rollout is coming but gives no date.

One new Instinct serves the whole group, and friends who do not use the product can still take part. Shinn’s post lists weekend trips, roommate logistics, ticket purchases split across the group, fantasy leagues, carpool schedules, and Thanksgiving planning.

The permissions design is the real story. A shared assistant that acts for individuals needs a wall between the group and each person’s private data. According to Shinn, the group’s Instinct has no direct access to anyone’s accounts, and each personal Instinct checks its owner’s permissions before sharing or acting. Each owner decides which groups get trusted and can revoke that later.

When a new member joins, pending replies from each personal Instinct are held until its owner approves sharing with the larger group. That stops a message written for four friends from reaching a fifth person nobody vetted.

Anyone testing this should add a stranger to a trial chat and confirm the replies stay held.
